I have a year's experience in a government department, as a trainee in which I have completed a cert III in Business Admind.. great references and experience in everything from reception, data entry, records management, pa work etc... but I just cant seem to break into decent employment. Im a really hard worker and have alot of potential. Why am I not given a chance - and what can I do to get myself out there. Its like Im too experienced for entry level, and not experienced enough for other things. Though I have the capability to do it all. Any advice

Man, some people are brutal on here!! Anyways, I feel your pain!! My fiance' worked at the same company for 6 years and was laid off last June. If you don't have SPECIFIC expierence NO ONE wants to train anyone anymore... If you have to much expierence then they don't want to pay you what your worth, so they don't hire you.

I say check out some employment agencies. I worked for an agency for a number of years, and as long as you follow up with them and let them know exactly what you want, they will work and help you!!!!

Good Luck!!!

I think everyone experiences this at some point or other in their lives. I know I definitely have a time or two (or more). just keep plugging away, maybe try temp work if you have to. You will eventually find what you are looking for.

You need to apply jobs that best suits your capability, qualifications and experience. For employers who said you're too experienced, let them know that you'll there will always be room for improvement; as for those who said you're not experienced enough, let them know that you're prepared to take on the challenges.

start as a temp and show how useful you are. find things that need doing and go do it dont wait to be told. anticipate bosses needs and fulfill them before the boss realize he needs it. when you do that you stand out and the boss slowly starts to rely on you more and more and you rise above the other employees in their eyes. believe me when the boss is giving out instruction for what he needs for next week and you already have it done you look good to him and he looks good to his boss.

you make yourself needed you find where and what is needed and carve out a niche for yourself. look at his schedule and see what is coming so you can prepare first not last.

Seek employment through a job agency. Be specific in your requirements. IE: Location, type of Business, small/big co., usually "if" you are specific and professional about your negotiations they are sharp in meeting them. Good luck!!

You really can't start second guessing what people want. You have to go in and be yourself. Everyone has their own ideas about what they are looking for in an employee and theres no way you're going to please them all.

Hang in there.... I always say that if they dont want you then they're not worth working for anyway

Kiss a lot of butt and tell them what they want to hear....seriously, hang in there. Your chance will come.

Welcome to the real world!

It hurts when you take off those rose colourd glasses and see the reality of life, dosn't it?
